Head Coach MIKE SANFORD (Full Video)
Opening statement:
"We finished a really good preparation week, just have some things you got to prepare for when you're going against Louisville. Their offense in particular [with] two unique quarterbacks in the sense that they both can do it all. The sample size is a lot smaller on Malik Cunningham; you certainly see on film that you have to keep him contained because he's going to make athletic plays and he's going to make off-schedule plays, but he's going to throw the football as well. He was highly-efficient in about as bad conditions as you can find. Jawon Pass is a big quarterback and with those receivers we have to do a great job, be tight in coverage. The tight end's a big player, and then running backs you have to get to the ground and they're kind of in a similar situation where they're playing a lot of running backs. So I thought our preparation offensively has been good, it has been solid."
On WKU's current quarterback situation:
"I think we have multiple quarterbacks who are ready to go play. It will be a game-time decision on Drew Eckels; nothing has changed in his status as it relates to the fact that he has full mobility and there's no structural damage. By no means is he 'out', so we'll make a game-time decision based on his ability to throw the football effectively on game day. We have a situation where three quarterbacks can effectively move the football. We feel like we're in that position and we also feel like Kevaris Thomas adds another element too, so I think his role will continue to grow. we gave him one opportunity, he starred in his role and now he has a chance to see that increase a little bit."
On the WKU-Louisville series history:
"It's great. I didn't realize it has been several decades since this rivalry has been played. And even beyond that, before that, there has been quite a few games played in this series. It's got some history to it. We want to go up there and we know what we have at stake. We have a lot of belief in these players and their ability to put together plays in all three phases, not get caught up in too much other than what's important, and that's executing."
