BOWLING GREEN, Ky. — WKU Football finished up practice on Wednesday evening, preparing for the team's third game of the season this Saturday, September 15 as the Hilltoppers make the short trip up the road to face in-state opponent Louisville at 6:30 p.m. CT.
Afterwards, freshman Juwuan Jones talked about the mood of the team primed to bounce back this weekend.
"Right after the game we were upset, but you can't mourn for too long. You've got about 24 hours to mourn about a loss," Jones said. "We're upbeat now. We're getting ready for Louisville. We're playing an ACC team so you have you get hyped for that."
Louisville is heading into Week 3 with a 1-1 record after beating Indiana State 31-7 last weekend, outscoring the Sycamores 24-0 in the second half. This week in practice, the WKU's defense has been preparing for the threat of Louisville's two quarterbacks.
"We're looking forward to playing those dual-threat quarterbacks," linebacker Der'Quione Mobley said. "We're taking it regularly. We're doing the same things we do on film. We evaluate each guy and we have a package for each guy."
Those quarterbacks are redshirt sophomore Jawon Pass and redshirt freshman Malik Cunningham. In the game vs. Indiana State, Pass went 8-of-14 for 89 yards with one interception, adding five rushes for 9 yards. Cunningham, meanwhile, went 6-of-7 for 75 yards with one touchdown, to go along with 12 rushes for 54 yards and one touchdown.
"I wouldn't say [they're] different, but I would say those guys definitely have different characteristics as far as who they are." Mobley said.
The Hilltoppers are looking to get their first win of the season and Mobley's bunch is looking forward to the opportunity.
"You want to see who is the best school in Kentucky," he said. "That's pretty big."
