KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – WKU was defeated by No. 38 Tennessee 4-0 Saturday night on the Lady Volunteers home court in Barksdale Stadium. The Lady Vols now lead the all-time series between the two programs 3-0.

In doubles action, senior duo Violetta Shatalova and Elpida Malamou were the first to fall, defeated by Tennessee 6-2. On court three, sophomore pair Natalia De Ugarte and Cindy Oest put up a fight, but the Lady Vols proved to be too much, defeating WKU 6-4.

Sophomore Monica Malinen and freshman Moka Ito did not finish their doubles match before Tennessee nabbed the point.

Moving into singles play, De Ugarte fell to a Lady Volunteer on court five 6-0, 6-3. Paraguay native, Oest was defeated by a Tennessee representative 6-0, 6-3. Malamou ultimately fell to a member of the Tennessee squad 6-1, 6-3 and the Lady Vols clinched the match.

Both Ito and Shatalova were in their second sets and Malinen was one point away from winning in straight sets when Tennessee won the overall match.

WKU (8-5, 2-1 C-USA) will return to action Friday, April 6, as they play C-USA opponent FIU in a neutral site match in Nashville, Tenn.
