Lady Tops, Joiner Lead Team, Individual Standings at Spring Break Shootout

DADE CITY, Fla. — WKU Lady Topper Golf felt right at home Monday in its own remote tournament in Florida, finishing the first day of its Spring Break Shootout in the lead of both the team and individual standings.

The Lady Toppers shot a 14-over total of 590 (289-301) as a team Monday at the par-72, 6,239-yard Lake Jovita Golf Club. That puts WKU six strokes ahead of second-place Jacksonville in the 14-team field.

WKU's 1-over 289 total in the first round was the best team score of the day and the fourth-best team round in program history. The Lady Toppers are co-hosting the event with Florida Gulf Coast.

WKU sophomore Mary Joiner is the individual leader through two rounds with a 2-under 142 (69-73) tally, tying her career low for 36 holes and putting her four strokes ahead of Jacksonville's Maria Brunzell and Florida Gulf Coast's Madeline Marck-Sherk.

Joiner, the reigning Conference USA Women's Co-Golfer of the Week, tied her season-low with a 3-under 69 in the first round. She's tied for the tournament lead with nine birdies, including six in her opening 18 holes.

Joiner is one of four Lady Toppers in the top 20 heading into Tuesday's final round, which begins at 7:30 a.m. CT with a shotgun start.

Senior Georgina Blackman is in fourth at 147 (71-76) and leads the tournament field with 26 pars and a 2-under effort across the par-3s.

Senior Katie Story is tied for seventh at 150 (73-77), and sophomore Bailey Tyree is tied for 19th at 153 (78-75). Freshman Megan Clarke is tied for 43rd at 157 (76-81).
