IRVING, Texas – WKU Volleyball junior Sophia Cerino has been recognized as one of 11 student-athletes named to the Conference USA All-Academic Team, the league office announced Tuesday. Honorees were selected based on a combination of their academic and athletic achievements.
Off the court, the Brentwood, Tenn., native is a two-time Conference USA Academic Medal recipient and has earned a spot on the President's List all four semesters on The Hill. Cerino's 3.95 GPA in Interior Design and Fashion Merchandising has helped the Red and White to two AVCA Team Academic Awards as well.
Cerino has played every set for the Lady Topper squad this season and has started 27 of the team's 29 matches. The lefty has tallied 277 kills on the season while operating at a .274 rate, not to mention a team-best 41 service aces. Cerino was tabbed the WKU Tournament MVP during the fourth week of the season and followed up with a Conference USA Offensive Player of the Week nod. On the season, Cerino owns 14 double-digit kill outings while putting up an efficiency of .300 or better on 14 occasions.
